No, I don’t mean “a” car – I mean the entire company. After months of speculation, it’s now official. As General Motors tries to move from big and bloated to lean and mean, it’s now putting Saturn on the market. Anyone have a few billion bucks to spare?

Uh Oh! More Good News About the Economy
Don’t tell the media or the politicians, because this will really pop their bubble. Pending sales of existing homes in the U.S. posted their first back-to-back gain in almost a year in March, and construction spending ended a six-month slide. As Dave Ramsey keeps saying, the solution to this mess will come from Main Street, not Wall Street or Washington.

Should It Be Easier to Can Bad Teachers?
There’s a move in Los Angeles to make it easier to get rid of bad teachers. I heard a woman on an L.A. radio station say that the problem is so bad that they don’t have time to form a task force. Not surprisingly, the teacher’s union is opposed to it.

Look Who Else Is Profiting During the Recession
A manager that works for Coca Cola bottling in Tulsa attended my seminar in Oklahoma last week, and tells me that Coke’s sales are up by 2% world wide in the first quarter of 2009. Somebody call Katie Couric and tell her the sky is still not falling.

From Mt.Pleasant, South Carolina:
I would like to nominate my mother. She has helped
people her entire life. Growing up my father was chronically ill and constantly
out-of-work. My mother put herself through school and worked full-time while
raising her family. She was part of the first child ”Protective
Services” unit for the Department of Social Services in my hometown.
She was always giving part of what we had (clothing, food, etc.) to some other
family. She went from there to the Department of Juvenile Justice and spent 32
years working with juvenile delinquents for the State of SC. She
”retired” in 2005 but continues to do for others. She is an
adoptee who has searched for her birthfamily for 40 years. Although she has
never been able to find her own family, she has searched (no charge) for others
and reunited many families. She has run adoptee/birthparent support groups. She
has listened and counseled many hours on the phone. Just this past Christmas,
she reunited a high s chool classmate of hers with his brother and sister!
This man is 72 years old
and just finding out he has siblings for the first time!
The last couple of years have been rough financially. She does not own a car at
the moment. Right now she depends on me to take her everywhere she goes. I know
she would like to go more places than she asks. I would love to see my mother,
who has given so much of herself to others, have something really nice done for
her! Thanks so much for this opportunity!

Of course there are so many people who serve everday that deserve
the car. I just want to say thanks to all and I wish that they could all have
one. My sons is the person that i am submitting he served two tours in IRAQ and
he is disabled because of that service. HE is an all American and the thing that
he takes most serious is being a dad. I am always looking to find out why he has
turned out so good becasue his dad or I neither one will be getting the parent
of the year award. THe reason i would like to see him have a car is he is the
only Marine that i know bought his x wife a car so his child could drive in a
air conditioned safe car while he drives a old toyota pick up.

From Tucson, Arizona
My sister works hard to provide for her two
children. She is a single mother and just had to have surgery on her foot. She
is struggling to pay for her foot rehab and medical bills, trying to keep
clothes on the backs of her boys, a roof over their heads, and facing work
furloughs (days off with no pay, even possible layoff, at her job due to
economic issues. No car payment and a reliable vehicle would help her
immensely.

Update on the Car Giveaway
We were quite surprised at the low number of entries into the car give away. We’ve had fewer than 100, with most of them looking fairly similar to the samples I’ve posted. If you know of someone in need of an extremely nice, reliable, and Free car, respond quickly because this Friday is the cutoff date.

From Los Angeles, California
Hi Glenn!
(Name) has been my cleaning lady for several years. She is in this
country legally and works very hard to support herself and her 8-yr-old daughter
(single mom). She has a very positive attitude and takes great pride in her
work. Mary would rather cut off her own arm than steal anything.
Because of the recession, a couple of her regular clients have let her go. She
has never owned a car and is in the process of getting her driver’’s
license.
She cannot afford to live anywhere near her client base, so she commutes quite
far (each day that she works) to her different clients. A few months ago, the
price of a monthly metro pass went up to $300!!
She also has a medical problem with her liver, but I don”t know
exactly what it is. Oh yea – I almost forgot – her ex is not in the country
legally, and ruined her credit buying a house he couldn”t
afford! She left him.
I do what I can for her, giving her my daughters” clothing they have
grown out of and giving her raises and bonuses when appropriate. If I could
give her a car, I would do it today.
(I am also a single mom and drive a 16-yr-old Bonneville! But I can make lots
more money than she ever will.)
I don”t know how she will manage the insurance and transportation, but
I”ll help her w/ at least a plane ticket and we”ll work out
the rest somehow.
I hope you pick her. She is such a wonderful person and hard worker.
Warm Regards,
Audrey
