What’s Old Style and Simple Design Becomes New and Innovative

Last week while looking for a comfortable place to spend an unexpected three hour layover at the St. Louis airport, I discovered six huge, perfect, and extremely comfortable chairs that were all unoccupied. I plopped down in one, watched a little TV and had the most relaxing layover I’ve ever had, while wondering why none of the other frenzied travelers who all looked tired and uncomfortable hadn’t taken the five other choice seats. My guess is that many of them were intimidated because they didn’t know how to operate such high tech devices – old fashioned, wooden rocking chairs.

  1. I really like this. I follow your blog and your Work is not For Sissies regularly. I also write a blog (rant) and hope you will take a moment to look at it. I regularly print your stuff for my struggling 16 year old and my currently unemployed mortgage sales husband. I am a high level manager blessed with amazingly good employees and really bad executive bosses. The sole support of father, son and husband. Happy to be working but….Work Is Not for Sissies. http://womenunseen.blogspot.com

  2. I like this. It is so simple but true. I follow your blog regularly and your weekly e-mails. I often print your narratives for my struggling 16 year old and my currently unemployed mortgage sales husband. I admire what you have achieved and actually hope to emulate some of what you have done. I am a blogwriter as well and one of my few talents is teaching and speaking. Would love to meet you someday and hope you will look at my blog. I am a high level manager (recovering trial lawyer) with fabulous employees and terrible executive managers. Thanks for your column, I look forward to it.

My husband and I would have been right next to you. We are huge fans of the ones that they have sitting outside at every Cracker Barrell restraunt around the country. I cant wait for the weather here to warm up a bit so we can begin our summer ritual. We will go out of our way to find one on a nice sunny day when we dont want to cook. We hope to have the extra money to buy a pair of them soon.
